Governor Parnell to Feds: Send the Money!

Aug 11, 2009

Last week Alaska’s new Acting Governor, Sean Parnell, wrote to Commerce Secretary Gary Locke asking him to declare a fishery disaster for the Yukon.

Yesterday, after Alaska legislators voted to override ex-Gov. Sarah Palin’s veto of accepting stimulus funds for weatherization, Gov. Parnell sent off a letter to the Federal Government accepting the money.

Alaska lawmakers override Palin veto from AP:

Gov. Sean Parnell announced Monday he had sent a letter to the federal government saying the state will accept the federal stimulus money that Palin vetoed. Parnell said he wants to use the money to reduce energy costs for public facilities and to support ongoing programs.

Many thanks Governor Parnell!!

Yes, though I am not an Alaskan, I am so happy for my friends who are. Take the money, use it wisely, spend it freely to help Alaskans; send some to the rural areas please and help to get ready for the winter months!

I had sage advice from someone who said that once the loony gov was gone, our new Governor Parnell would come into his own & begin to make his own decisions. I hope this is true – we do not need a continuance of a near disastrous year in state politics.

I am pleased that the Governor is going with the majority on the stimulus funds. We need to move on, spend wisely and forge new rivers!

I know, I know… I’m getting there, I really am. It’s all behind me now like a bad dream. Thank you Governor Parnell, for being YOU!

WTG Governor Parnell! Next: clean house and get some qualified folks in key positions so that some boards and commissions can be more effective.

Thanks Governor for doing the right thing!

Helpful. At least, with winter coming, Parnell didn’t spend time blowing hot air/gas – got his letter mailed immediately. At least, it will start producing jobs. ALTHOUGH, I hope those jobs aren’t going to be for workers imported from the Lwr48, hire Alaskans Parnell!

” … (State Senator) Egan praised the selection of projects and the emphasis on weatherization and efficiency.

“Any time you do energy efficiency in any building that the people own it’s a good thing for everybody,” he said.

Egan said he also appreciated Parnell’s following through on his commitment to apply for the federal money, despite his opposition to the veto override.

“He came back and did exactly what he said he was going to do,” he said. ”
    Thank you Governor Parnell.
We are looking forward to what these funds will do for our public buildings and for our neighbors.
